Synopsis:
This 35mm experimental animated film expresses the transformative experience of being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. The film explores this emotional and physical landscape, and visualizes an internal world inside the body, imagined on a cellular level.

![]() | About Karen Aqua Karen Aqua studied animation and illustration at Rhode Island School of Design (USA), receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1976. Since 1976, Aqua has completed 11 independently produced animated films and one collaborative animation/live-action video. Her award-winning films have been screened at festivals worldwide. She has received fellowships from the American Film Institute, the MacDowell Colony, Millay Colony for the Arts, Fundación Valparaíso (Spain), New England Film/Video Fellowship Program, Berkshire Taconic Trust, LEF Foundation, and the Puffin Foundation. Aqua has taught animation at Boston College, Emerson College, and at workshops and residencies around the United States. She has presented numerous screenings of her work throughout the US, and has had one-person exhibitions of her drawings at a number of museums, universities, and art centers. She has served as a juror for film festivals in the US, Japan, and Canada. In 2005, a special program of Aqua's animated films was presented at the Tehran International Animation Festival, Iran. Since 1990 she has produced, directed, and animated 22 segments for the children's television program Sesame Street. Click here to view the director's website. |
