My Big Big Friend - A Co-Production Case Study
With the high risk and huge financial burden of animated series production, co-productions and co-ventures are a very real alternative to many producers. While the benefits of a healthy co-pro can be immense, there are countless hurdles along the way that can destroy a project. The art of compromise and maintaining the creative integrity of a project is at the heart of any co-production. This is a detailed look at the making of a Canadian international co-production, with all the financial and creative players at the table.
The selected case, “My Big Big Friend”, is a co-production with Toronto production company Breakthrough Films and Television, and Brazil’s 2DLab, for Treehouse (Canada), TV Brasil (Brazil) and Discovery Kids (Latin America).
