A sharper look at DePatie Freleng's original 1960s PINK PANTHER cartoons.
Animation Historian Jerry Beck presents a retrospective of the Academy Award
winning DePatie Freleng theatrical cartoons of the 1960s - The Pink Panther,
The Inspector, The Ant & The Aadrvark and more - in a program which examines
the artists and progressive style that redefined the theatrical cartoon in
the
1960s. The Panther was the last great Hollywood cartoon character created
at
the tail end of "the golden age", by the likes of Friz Freleng, Hawley Pratt
and a crew of ex-Looney Tunes renegades. His cool persona, slick design and
the
funny cartoons have sustained the character as a merchandising phenomenon
for
40 years. Now, as a new live-action Steve Martin movie attempts to revive
the
franchise, we go back to the beginning to see how it happened - and discover
the cartoons are just as sharp, stylish and witty as they've ever been.
Beck,
who has just authored a new book on The Pink Panther, will discuss the
history
and filmmakers behind the cartoons. You'll be tickled pink!
